Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at a live event?

As part of the Stage at the Lake, we’re offering a hands-on opportunity for young people interested in live events, music, sound, lighting and production to gain real-world experience working backstage at a major festival.

At Debut at the Lake (Friday 14th August) you’ll shadow Stage at the Lake’s professional technical team and get an introduction to the world of lighting, staging and sound production — learning what it takes to build, run and deliver a live show. From set-up and rigging to live production and get-out, this is a chance to experience the fast-paced world of technical events production first-hand.

Working alongside experienced crew with a packed line-up, you’ll gain practical insight into a career in live events and develop valuable backstage skills in a real festival environment.

What you’ll get:

      · Hands-on experience working backstage at Stage at the Lake

      · An introduction to sound, lighting and technical production

      · Learning from experienced industry professionals

      · The chance to work alongside festival partners and professional talent

      · Real insight into careers in live events and production

 

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to Calderdale-based young people aged 18–25 with an interest in live events and music production. No previous experience needed - just enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in!

Important dates

You must be available:

12 August 2026 - Health & Safety / event briefing

14 August 2026, 8am - 6pm – Live event experience at Debut at the Lake in Shibden Park.

PERFORM AT DEBUT AT THE LAKE 
THE BUDDING STAGE

Big stage energy? This is your moment.

Stage at the Lake makes its debut in summer 2026 – a brand-new festival bringing live music, theatre, comedy and culture to the stunning lakeside setting of Shibden Park, Halifax. And now, we’re looking for the next wave of local talent to be part of it.

Introducing Debut at the Lake – The Budding Stage – your chance to perform on the main stage on Friday 14 August 2026. Whether you’re an emerging artist, established performer or passionate amateur, we want to hear from you.

We’ve got six 20-minute performance slots available for solo artists, singers, musicians and bands across all genres – from indie, pop and hip-hop to folk, jazz, house, classical and everything in between. Selected acts will receive a fee £175 for their performance.

Who can apply?

 

You must be a West Yorkshire-based performer (due to funding restrictions) You can be any age but if you’re under 18 someone aged 18+ must complete the form for you. Professional, emerging and amateur performers are all welcome.
